Busiest week ever! Pt. 1 – Tuesday & Wednesday
Hey Gang!
Quick post about how last week went:
On Tuesday, Shawn (prez), Keely and Sean (me) went on a 24 hour whirlwind of a road trip up to Kelowna to support Janine and Lisa (our K-town AOC’ers) at their first event. The ride up was a great time to relax and enjoy a 3 hour break – most of us have been working on the ride non-stop
.

We drove quickly.
When we finally made it up, Janine and Lisa were in full swing, setting up tables and making things happen. The event was basically a casual silent auction held in a local pub called Rose’s (Thanks Rose!). The pub was PACKED! Tons of random people came and visited our auction, and we got a chance to talk up our bikeride and our cause.

A Tragically Hip cover band also rocked the party!

In the end, we managed to raise a grand total of $3830!

We celebrated by first cheering like maniacs, and then having an all-night no-tent campout on Shawn’s Aunt’s back portch.

For me, being up in Kelowna, it was amazing to speak with complete strangers and have them resonate with what we’re trying to accomplish. I was talking to a guy who was at the hotel next door, just in for two days from Calgary. I explained what we were doing and why, and he said “I grew up really poor in the boonies of Calgary. I’m doing really well now – I have my own business, and I’m making great money, but only because a good friend gave me a leg up.” He dropped $80 to the fund. So cool!
Can’t wait to get on the road. More to come soon about our Anza club adventure and Shawn’s birthday fundraiser!
