Global AFC Annual General Meeting – September 26, 2009 (2PM-4PM)
1068 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC

We’ve had an amazing 2008/09 as the organization has continued to grow and find innovative ways to create positive social change while inspiring youth and others like yourself.

This year’s AGM will include brief overviews from each committee and presentations for new and existing volunteers to learn about what’s going on in the organization and how we can move forward.

We highly encourage you to come out to the AGM as this is the only time the entire organization gets together in one room to collaborate on projects and share ideas. The general meetings have been renowned for the energy and drive everyone brings to the room so please come out! We would love to see you there.

Kiva and Global AFC Social Mixer – June 25, 2009
Hosted by Aventine, Global Agents for Change, Kiva and Jonathan Martin at Taverna Aventine (582 Washington Street, San Francisco, CA) from 6:30PM-9:30PM.

Global Agents for Change is Riding to Break the Cycle Again! Join 20 young cyclists as they reach San Francisco on their 2000 mile journey from Vancouver to the Tijuana border. The riders will be joined by Kiva, as they celebrate this third annual tour in support of microcredit initiatives globally, and the ongoing work of Kiva to connect lenders with deserving developing world entrepreneurs.

Your $5 suggested donation will be going to support loans for developing world entrepreneurs fighting to pull themselves out of poverty.

It’s a happy hour with a cause, what’s not to love?

Second Annual Riding to Break the Cycle Pledge Rides, May 31, 2009

Over $9000 was raised by cyclists in Toronto & Vancouver in support of 50 youth cycling across North America/Europe this summer to raise awareness and funds for microcredit initiatives in the developing world, helping poor entrepreneurs, families and communities pull themselves out of poverty.

The weather was beautiful in Vancouver! Everyone finished the 10km ride from Vancouver Art Gallery to Grandview Park and then participated in the community festival at Grandview Park which featured a delicious BBQ (sponsored by Freybe Foods, Coke, and Health Bagels), a kids craft table, and amazing live entertainment performed by the youth from Sirota’s Alchymy. The afternoon activities ended on a high note with Global AFC volunteers and the community cheering on the 25 riders participating in the Riding to Break the Cycle Mexico Tour as they began their journey of a lifetime to Mexico. Click here to view the 3000km route and for more information on how you can help them out.

In Toronto, the weather was not as perfect due to the fierce wind but all the cyclists’ spirit stayed high and everyone completed the 20km route from Humberside Park East to Woodbine Park. Community festivals were also held in Toronto. A big thanks to the sponsors for helping fund a successful community event: Falafel express, Wanda’s pie in the sky, Jumbo Empenadas, Collin O’Neill,  Kristina Kiil, Allyson Amster, Bike Chain (U of T), and finally Jeff Rayman for being the keynote speaker! Also, congratulations to Josh Patlik, Matthew Urbanski, Samer Haj-Bakri for being to top 3 pledge ride collectors!

Third Annual Global Agents for Change Gala, March 28, 2009

The most successful Gala yet! Over 200 of Vancouver’s most interesting people for dinner, $8,000 raised and amazing speeches to continue inspiring youth to take leadership and create social change. We’re overwhelmed by the support of the community and the inspiring youth that were in attendance to accept their Young Agents awards.

A big thanks to our generous sponsors for the evening, amazing live band – The Airtights, and last but not least, Ovey Yeung for producing this successful event and Ivy So for organizing the silent auction!
